Pennsylvania Rules for Classic Cars
Each state has specific rules about what legally constitutes a classic car for registration purposes. Pennsylvania’s PennDOT Classic Vehicles Fact Sheet states that a classic motor vehicle is a “motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years before the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer specifications and appearance.”
This means that any vehicle produced before 2007, and maintained to the manufacturer’s condition, would technically constitute a classic car in Pennsylvania. It’s not just the age that matters—an older vehicle that shows signs of wear and tear would not be considered a classic. It must be in essentially like-new condition to qualify for this title.
